This is a very tentative schedule for Invertebrate Biology. It will be modified to reflect changes in animal availability and so laboratory focus as the semester proceeds. If availability of animals changes, this schedule will be modified.
This is a hybrid course. Class will meet in David Clark 102 on some Wednesdays. Other weeks, material will be introduced via zoom sessions or covered through on line exercises. Wednesday's classes will be devoted to exams, review for such, pop quizzes, group activities and discussion of any homework assignments. Most of the material on clade characteristics will be covered through online exercises in which you will often to asked to view films available on various websites or produced by past students in this course.
A textbook is not required however should you prefer obtaining basic information from a textbook; highly recommended is Biology of the Invertebrates by Jan A. Pechenik, Sixth ed. McGraw Hill. There is a 7th ed., but no used copies are available.
Some assignments will be required to be submitted via Moodle.
Laboratories will be published on line. You will be required to keep a digital journal. A thumb drive of 1 G or more is required. Thumb drives will not be returned. This thumb drive will be submitted to your lab instructor at intervals. It should contain all word files and all labeled pictures or diagrams to be graded. It will also contain a file that will tell your instructor exactly where to look for any movies to be graded. Do not attempt to put movies on your thumb drive. However, having the other files on a thumb drive will speed grading and allow you to work on your supporting image and all text files at home. It will also allow you to share pictures, etc. with other students in the class.
You are encouraged to bring computers, tablets, smart cell phones etc. to class on all days except days on which you will be taking exams.
